Today is April 22nd , and it is officially Earth Day! It’s the perfect time to remind your kids of the importance of protecting their planet. There are events going on not only throughout the country, but also internationally, since April 22nd was named “International Mother Earth Day” by the United Nations in 2009. Kid’s can play a huge roll in these events. There are beach and park clean-ups, planting of trees, recycling drives and many other activities.
I bet you didn’t know that the year that the charming Kermit the Frog sang us this tune for the first time was the same year of the very first Earth Day, 1970. Since then, Earth Day has become acknowledged on a global scale. The future of our planet, the one we hand over to our children is facing some dangerous changes. It’s an absolute priority that we teach our kids to respect it. In the world of design, the choice of materials, new technologies, and old traditions have become major considerations when creating our environments. So why not educate our kids in the process. In one week, we will celebrate Earth Day 2013! So until then, I will be sharing some simple ideas that both you as parents and they as our children can adopt together. Let’s see what we can learn and teach them about their environments.
