For our town, the first day of school is tomorrow. As you've probably noticed, I have taken a few days off from posting just to get some last minute summer activities in. One of those was taking my kids to the store for all of their brand-spanking new supplies. Let's face it. It doesn't matter if you have lots of pencils and erasers left over from last year. There is something so special about getting a new pencil case, some clean pink erasers and a fresh pencil sharpener.
The next question will be how long it will be before we lose half of this stuff. Some will end up in the car, some on the playground, some in the couch cushions. I am under no delusions that any organization ideas I have will prevent all of this. But dammit I try my best every year! This year, I am relying on the vintage style "Ball Jar." You know these. The blue tinted glass jars that people are over-charging for at flea markets. Well, amazon took the hint. If you don't care that they are not truly vintage, this is your answer.
The Heritage collection "Ball Jar" on amazon for less than $14 for a pack of 6. Above my daughters' desks, I hung a cool distressed wood trim I found at an antique shop, hooks already attached.
I then got a flexible wire and twisted it around the top of the jar, taking just a bit extra and forming it into a loop. Now each jar can be hung on a hook for storage, or taken down for use.
The best part is that the blue tint keeps the jars looking consistent. But they are clear enough to see everything inside. If you can't find something, no need to pull drawers apart looking. Just peer through the glass. Chances are, it's in one of them. you also have the option of switching the order of the jars around to keep supplies for the current projects within reach.
Have a great first day at school girls. Mommy can't wait to hear all about it. xoxo
