This carpet, from Color Reform, is available from ABC Carpet. It is awesomely rich and vibrant. This would make a fantastic focal piece for a kid’s room. But…it’s $9000. Now don’t get discouraged. I am not suggesting that you ever spend that much on a carpet for a kid’s room no matter how much money you might have. We aren’t crazy. They’re kids! They are messy! But it would be gorgeous. So now what?
When designing a kid’s room, color choices are usually my points of origin. Other designers may start other ways, but I know color, no matter how bold or subtle, can determine the entire mood of a room. It is an incredibly important influence on energy. So when the “Over dyed” rug craze started popping up in the mainstream last year, I wanted to jump on it.
Over dyeing is basically a process where the original colors of a rug are bleached out, and a new dye is chemically and intensely applied on top. Since the original color is never completely bleached, those remaining tints give the new dye color incredible depth and detail.
These carpets are all over dyes. And they are all under $1000. Some of them are less than half that amount. And these are awesome. They might not be hand-knotted re dyed antiques. But they are rich and vibrant and FUN. That spells good for kids.
They come in many different sizes and colors and are available at Rugs USA. There’s basically something for just about every combination of kids you might have…girl, boy, 2 of each, 1 of each. These all can work for someone.
And as a cool little bonus for a reading corner or family space, there are these over dyed rug sling chairs. I love these. These were created by Still & Co.
And just in case you have a good juice box spill on any of these, which you will, no one will know : )
