This is where the ideas start to take shape. I spent some time shopping around and found a few cool things that tie in with our colors and fabrics. We might use them; we might not, but DO NOT EDIT NOW! Just grab it, bring it home, and start to mix things together.
These caught my eye right away. This stone globe with a very hand-painted/tribal sort of feel is very fun. It’s very different from the graphic zigzag fabric in its style, which I love. They work together, but sort-of amplify the strength of each other by being different. Not to mention the connection of Australia and crocodiles. That’s just fun; and we love fun. The bright green thread will look fantastic on top of the yellow or crocodile fabric. But my absolute favorite is the mini colored clothespins. Total score.
Not only are these functional, but the repetition of these triangular shapes that are reflected in the zigzag fabric AND the crocodile mouths are awesome. This is something to notice. Write it down:
Keep it fresh in your mind so you will recognize it in other finds. I’m not sure how we will use them yet, but it will come together.
The next item, this stone yellow heart is a relative of the globe. It’s bright and patterned with diamonds, (just two triangles put together ; ) And I love the sheen.
I also love the way it is loosely painted so you can see the translucency of the brush strokes just a bit. Putting it next to the very crisp solid pattern of the birdcage fabric allows each to have individual personalities while complementing each other.
My last find of the day was these green pull-knobs. The colors are perfect. The hands painted shapes with outlines are now becoming a common thread in our design. And the little white “beads” are repeated in our bird fabric.
Not a bad day. I think we have a good start. Now we need to take the trends: the free-hand painting, the triangles, of course our color palette, and look somewhere new. Go to pinterest, Google images, etsy, wherever you like to search on line. We now need to see if we can find just a few major pieces. It could be an area rug, a light fixture, a piece of furniture, but this needs to be something purposeful for our space.
I look forward to what you find tomorrow.
