Once upon a time, there were two brothers, Jaime and Isaac. Isaac, the older of the two was a master of numbers. He spent his days traveling the country crunching and analyzing the greatest of numerical mysteries. Jaime, the younger of the two was a talented designer. He spent his days filling his mind with artistic and architectural knowledge, which he persued with great persistence and a constant supply of chocolate.
It wasn’t until 2001 that these two brothers joined forces in a combined ambition to spread the world with “Green Desire.” Green Desire is a powerful and magical force. Those who are touched by it crave beauty, sustainability and affordability! If they were to succeed in spreading Green Desire throughout the land, the planet might be saved. And all of those on it would live happily ever after!
What a story! And it’s true at MIO, the brainchild of Jaime and Isaac Salm. When visiting the site of MIO, you will find an assortment of products that are affordable, environmentally friendly and incredibly groovy. There is no way to possibly discuss them all in one post, so for today, I would like to focus on one that I think fits perfectly into the world of Juvenile Hall Design, not only because of the fantastic environments it creates, but also because of the ease at which ANYONE can build it. That means no tools and no holes in walls. Renters, pay close attention.
This is the Nomad System. These structures are made of double sided cardboard sheets. They come in a variety of 10 colors, which can be mixed and matched in any pattern you choose. I love every one of their color choices, but I especially love the Butterfly Nomad, so magical. They are free standing, so no need to pull out the drill. They can be assembled to create walls, windows or doors. They can wrap around corners or create them where there were none before.
When it comes to being kind to the environment, they are not only made from recycled materials, but can be easily disassembled and recycled again.
If you are feeling very creative, you can also request a custom design for your set of Nomads. Above are a few samples of what others have requested.
Is your mind racing? The possibilities of these are endless. Supply instant privacy for kids who share a room. Designate a corner for a special study space. Build them on the wall around a bed for a grand headboard. Put them in a playroom to create the backdrop for an instant imaginative theater production.
I know there are a few of you who still feel a bit intimidated. I always have those clients who tell me that they don’t have a creative e bone in their body. No worries. The Salm brothers have created a Flip Book of ideas for you.
I mean seriously, are these Prince Charmings for real? I don’t know about you, but I have definitely been infected by “Green Desire” and I hope an antidote is never found. ; )
